First German, then maths or a double lesson of general knowledge - many primary school pupils find it difficult to concentrate for two 45-minute periods at a time. Girls and boys in the first two years of school in particular still need relatively long breaks. And exercise to satisfy their natural urge to do so.
Of course, the teachers at Sonnenberg Primary School in Grünberg-Stangenrod are also aware of this. They discussed the topic with the primary school's support association. They found a committed contact in Frank Hubner, one of the chairmen of the Sonnenberg Primary School Support Association. He immediately turned to "Spiel' Dein Spiel". With this campaign, Stadtwerke Gießen supports clubs and organisations that offer children and young people meaningful and planned exercise activities. Specifically, the support group wanted vehicles for the breaks. "In the end, we chose three Olifu Bikez Racers," explains Stephanie Orlik, who is responsible for the "Play your game" campaign at SWG. The sit-on scooters, worth around 500 euros, offer several advantages. The most important one: only the legs are needed for propulsion and steering. The hands remain free. "This makes it possible to play ball with the vehicle," explains Stephanie Orlik. All of this means that the speedsters are ideal for developing the coordination of young riders. The low seating position and the resulting low centre of gravity provide the necessary stability. It goes without saying that the robust construction can withstand the rigours of everyday use at school.
Popular playground equipment
"The Bikez Racers are really well received," says Frank Hubner happily. "In fact, the vehicles are very popular and some children have already got the hang of it," adds headmistress Rita zum Winkel. Fulfilling the desire for the break-time speedsters fits perfectly into the "Spiel' Dein Spiel" concept. And in two ways. Stephanie Orlik puts it like this: "Right from the start, our focus was not just on promoting talent in terms of sporting performance. We are always looking for projects where the primary aim is for children to develop a love of exercise. And this is exactly what the Bikez Racers fulfil." Then there's the icing on the cake: Olifu is based in Grünberg. This means that the donation not only benefits a school in the region, but also supports a company based here.
