The Mittelhessen Cup running series starts again in 2022. Stadtwerke Gießen will be supporting the organising clubs as a partner this year and in the next two years.
Put on your running shoes and get out into the fresh air. And regardless of whether it's raining or sunny, alone or in a group: for many people, running means switching off from everyday life and enjoying nature. The members of the runners' and walkers' association Marathon Giessen e. V. (LGV Marathon Giessen) also appreciate this about their sport. The running enthusiasts organised the 45th spring run in Giessen-Wieseck on Sunday, 3 April 2022 - the first competition of this year's Central Hesse Cup.
Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) has been a cooperation partner of the Mittelhessen Cup GbR since 2015 and, among other things, provides the archway at the finish line for the events. "For us, it is a matter of course to support this popular leisure sport and we are looking forward to a successful running series," explains Ulli Boos, company spokesperson for SWG, on the occasion of the extension of the cooperation for another three years.
A customised start
On Sunday, the starter sent the runners off on the half marathon course - a distance of 21.1 kilometres - at 9 a.m. on the dot. The ten-kilometre race began at 11.45 am. The start and finish were both at the "Am Ried" sports hall in Giessen-Wieseck. The spring race organised by LGV Marathon Giessen traditionally marks the start of the Central Hesse Cup. For the first time again after two cancellations. The last of the eleven races will take place on 19 November in Alten-Buseck.
Despite all the enthusiasm, the first competition of the year could not take place as usual: The event took place under 3G conditions, the short five-kilometre run and the children's run had to be cancelled and the number of participants was limited to 250 runners. But none of this dampened the euphoria. Sven Schnitker, Managing Director of Mittelhessen-Cup GbR, was eagerly awaiting the start, as was everyone involved: "We are delighted that our popular running series is starting again - and that we can rely on a partner like Stadtwerke Gießen even in difficult times."
About the event: The Mittelhessen Cup has been taking place from spring to late autumn in the districts of Giessen, Lahn-Dill and Marburg-Biedenkopf since 1997. Twelve clubs from the region have joined forces in the Mittelhessen-Cup GbR to organise and host the event: TV 07 Watzenborn-Steinberg, LGV Marathon Giessen, ASC Licher Wald, TSV Krofdorf-Gleiberg, TSG 1893 Leihgestern, Lauftreff Biebertal, TSF Heuchelheim, ASC Breidenbach, Team Naunheim, SV Garbenteich, Treiser Lauf- und Walkingtreff 2007 and TSG Alten-Buseck.
