Construction work in Marburger Straße

Stadtwerke Giessen has to cross Marburger Strasse to further develop the north of Giessen with district heating pipes.

The expansion of the district heating network in the north of Giessen continues. On 5 January, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) will begin crossing Marburger Straße at the level of Gießener Allgemeine with the corresponding pipes. The background to the construction work is that the district heating pipes already laid in Steinstraße are to be extended beyond Marburger Straße. The same applies to the ageing power lines, which SWG is also renovating at the same time.

To accomplish this, SWG will open the right-hand lane out of town on 5 January and begin the laying and renovation work. This will be followed by the left-hand lane out of the city, the left-hand lane into the city and finally the right-hand lane towards the city centre. If everything goes according to plan, the crossing of Marburger Straße should be completed by the end of March.

One lane in each direction

By organising the construction work in this way, SWG is aiming to keep disruption to traffic to a minimum. This is why they have already removed the traffic island in this area in advance. This makes it easier to guide traffic past the construction site with one lane in each direction. In addition, some parking spaces will be removed during the construction period and the pavement on the right-hand side of the road heading out of town will only be usable to a limited extent. "We are aware that the construction work will cause inconvenience for local residents. We are doing everything we can to minimise the inconvenience and will provide prompt information if, contrary to expectations, the work takes longer than expected," explains SWG company spokesperson Ulli Boos.
