Construction work continues on Liebigstrasse

From next Monday, SWG will resume the construction work in Liebigstraße that was interrupted over Christmas and the turn of the year.

In order to restore the car park situation in Liebigstraße to normal over the holidays, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) has suspended the pipeline construction work between Ludwigstraße and Ebelstraße. The construction project will resume next Monday, 26 January 2026. The contracted company will be setting up the construction site again this week. "Basically, we're bringing everything back to the way it was before Christmas," explains SWG company spokesperson Ulli Boos. This means that Liebigstrasse will have to be closed to through traffic and traffic will have to be diverted. Public car parking spaces will also be removed. However, residents, emergency vehicles and refuse collection vehicles will still be able to pass through the area. Yard access roads will therefore remain accessible.

What happens next
When construction work resumes, the first task will be to lay the new gas and water house connections and the associated civil engineering work. SWG will then restore the road surface and set up an emergency footpath. This is because the pavement on the side with odd-numbered houses will then be opened up so that new power cables can be laid. The final sub-project will be the integration of the already laid district heating pipe into the existing network at the Liebigstraße/Ebelstraße junction. SWG will announce any further traffic disruptions associated with this in good time. Exactly when the construction work will be completed depends on numerous factors, such as the weather. However, those responsible at SWG assume that everything will be ready by the end of 2026 at the latest.
