Climate-friendly and produced without nuclear power: these are two important attributes of the "Giessen green electricity" that Stadtwerke Giessen (SWG) supplies to all private customers. Brigitte Brücksken from Rabenau/Odenhausen and Markus Wiener from Reiskirchen/Lindenstruth will now each receive 1000 kilowatt hours of "Giessen green electricity" free of charge. In a raffle, District Administrator Anita Schneider drew them from a lottery pot with the names of all those involved in the "Energy efficiency in village renewal" project.
The background: The Bioenergy Region of Central Hesse organisation called on homeowners in several municipalities in the Vogelsberg district and the district of Giessen to have their buildings assessed for energy efficiency in order to receive suggestions for possible renovations. The key data of the buildings were recorded in special questionnaires. The evaluation was carried out by professionals from an engineering firm. However, people from the respondents' neighbourhood, who had previously received special training from SWG, went from house to house - including Brigitte Brücksken and Markus Wiener. In Rabenau/Odenhausen, 30 per cent of the homeowners contacted took part and in Lindenstruth, one in two of them did so.
Commitment pays off
"Free advice for our customers has been part of our service for decades as a matter of course. After all, one of the most important steps on the way to greater energy efficiency is to assess the current condition of a building and see where the greatest savings potential is hidden," explains Michael Rösner, Head of Private and Business Customer Sales at SWG, adding: "The volunteers in the 'Energy Efficiency in Village Renewal' project have therefore made a significant contribution to lower energy consumption, and we want to reward them in particular by rewarding them with free 'Giessen green electricity'."
