Closure of Rödgener Straße
On Monday, 23 March 2026, construction work will begin on the fundamental renewal of Rödgener Straße. This will require a full road closure and bus diversions.
At the beginning of next week, Rödgener Straße will be fully closed between Monroestraße and the access road to Sophie-Scholl-Schule due to a fundamental renovation. The city of Giessen's civil engineering department is coordinating the necessary construction work with the Giessen municipal utilities and the Mittelhessische Wasserbetriebe. The electricity, natural gas, district heating and drinking water pipes as well as the sewer will be renewed at the same time.
Diversion of bus routes 1 and 17
Due to the extent of the construction work, Rödgener Straße will have to be completely closed. As a result, bus routes 1 and 17 will be rerouted for the duration of the work and bus stops will be cancelled. The buses will take a diversion in both directions via Rudolf-Diesel-Straße, Zeppelinstraße, Stolzenmorgen and Lufthansastraße. The bus stops "Rudolf-Diesel-Straße" and "Sophie-Scholl-Schule" in Rödgener Straße cannot be served. The stops "Stolzenmorgen" in Lufthansastraße and "Colemanstraße" in Stolzenmorgen will also be cancelled. MIT.BUS will set up appropriate replacement stops on the diversion route: The stop "Colemanstraße Ersatz" is located in Zeppelinstraße, the stops "Gefahrenabwehrzentrum" and "Stolzenmorgen Ersatz" in the street Stolzenmorgen.
Bus route 1 runs at the usual frequency to the "Stolzenmorgen Ersatz" stop. From here, some of the journeys will go to the new terminus "Lufthansastraße", while others will continue to the "Bürgerhaus" stop in Rödgen. Which buses go where is shown on the destination display of the respective vehicle and on the display of the dynamic passenger information system at the "Berliner Platz" stop. Line 17 will be extended to the "Bürgerhaus" stop in Rödgen, but will end in the opposite direction at the "Berliner Platz" stop on the congress hall side (bus platform 1) due to journey time reasons. This is also where the buses will start again in the direction of Rödgen. The regulation applies until spring 2027.
