Colourful programme at the Giessen City Festival: guests experience a weekend of music, culture and culinary delights. Stadtwerke Giessen is extending its timetable on Saturday, 17 August and Sunday, 18 August to ensure a stress-free journey to and from the festival. In addition, public transport in the city centre will be free of charge on Saturday and Sunday thanks to the city of Giessen.
Giessen city centre becomes a party mile: From Friday, 16 August to Sunday, 18 August, the city festival offers tens of thousands of people plenty of live music, an exciting cultural programme and a wide range of culinary delights. At the Giessen city run "Run 'n' Roll for Help" on Sunday, 18 August, the athletes are committed to a good cause.
Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) will ensure a smooth journey home with an extended timetable: there will be an additional journey on Friday and Saturday night. At midnight, various lines will depart from the Marktplatz bus stop, including buses on line 1 to Lützellinden and Rödgen, line 2 to Eichendorffring, line 3 to the cemetery and Schwarzacker, line 5 to Wieseck and line 7 to Philosophenwald. Line 800 goes to Weststadt, while a scheduled taxi is available for journeys to Petersweiher, the Protestant hospital and Sandfeld. SWG uses articulated buses on lines 1, 2, 5 and 15 to cope with the increased number of passengers.
Night journey with Venus and Saturn
As usual, the Venus and Saturn night buses will also start at Berliner Platz during the festival weekend. They run every hour from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday from midnight to 4.30 am. The Venus line serves the railway station as well as the north and west of Giessen as far as Wieseck. The Saturn line takes passengers to the south and east of the city as well as to Kleinlinden. Connecting taxis are available for onward journeys to Rödgen, Allendorf and Lützellinden. These depart from the Waldstadion stop in the direction of Rödgen and from the Waldweide stop to Allendorf and Lützellinden.
Free public transport instead of a car
Once again this year, visitors to the festival will be able to reach the city centre stress-free and without having to worry about parking. On Saturday and Sunday, the city of Giessen will also be offering free travel throughout the city centre and between Giessen and Heuchelheim in fare zone 1501. This also applies to the additional departures at midnight from the market square. The regular RMV fares apply on Friday. The group day ticket is then particularly attractive: up to five people can travel in fare zone 1501 - i.e. throughout Giessen - for 9.55 euros for the whole day.
"If you opt for the bus, you not only save time and nerves on the festival weekend, but also get to the city centre and back home again safely and free of charge," says Anne Müller-Kreutz, Head of Local Transport Services at SWG, explaining the benefits of public transport. Her tip: "Leave your car at home and use public transport."
Diversions for bus routes
Due to the Giessen city run "Run 'n' Roll for Help", on Sunday, 18 August, lines 5 and 15 in the direction of the train station and line 12 to Berliner Platz will be diverted between around 12 noon and 8 pm. From the "Landgericht" stop, buses on lines 5 and 15 in the direction of the train station will travel via Moltkestraße and Grünberger Straße and therefore stop at Berliner Platz instead of the Behördenzentrum. Line 12 will take an alternative route from the "Steinstraße" stop via Nordanlage, Neustadt, Marktplatz and Neuen Bäue to the "Berliner Platz" stop. In this direction, the stops "Landgericht" and "Behördenzentrum" will be cancelled. Instead, the stops "Nordanlage", "Oswaldsgarten", "Marktplatz" and "Berliner Platz" will be served. Buses on lines 5, 12 and 15 in the direction of Wieseck or Sandfeldschule will continue on the usual route.
