Giessen. Visitors to the Giessen City Festival will be able to get home safely on public transport even late at night this year. On the weekend from 19 to 21 August, the buses operated by Stadtwerke Giessen will run longer than usual. After midnight on Friday and Saturday, there will be a special timetable for several routes from the Marktplatz stop. At midnight and 1.00 a.m., buses on line 1 will travel to Lützellinden and Rödgen, line 2 will travel towards Eichendorffring, line 3 towards Friedhof and Wartweg, line 5 to Wieseck and line 7 towards Philosophenwald and Evangelisches Krankenhaus. Line 801 will take visitors to the city festival to Weststadt and Rathenaustraße. From the market square, a scheduled taxi also transports passengers to Petersweiher and Sandfeld. Line 24 of the ESE transport company runs to Heuchelheim.
Night buses until the early hours
The two free night buses of the city of Giessen will also be on the road during the city festival from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday. "Venus" and "Saturn" run from 00:30 to 04:30 in the morning. The Venus line runs on a route between the railway station, the north of Giessen and the west of the city, including Wieseck. The Saturn night bus route travels to the south, the east and to Kleinlinden. Connecting taxis run to the districts of Rödgen, Allendorf and Lützellinden. The starting point is Berliner Platz in Giessen once an hour.
The buses are also a good alternative to the car during the day. There is no need to search for a parking space in the city centre and the inexpensive group day ticket for up to five adults is available for just 6.00 euros.
Diversion due to city run on Sunday
On Sunday, 21 August, line 5 in the direction of the train station and line 12 in the direction of Berliner Platz will be rerouted from midday. The reason: the Giessen city run "Run'n Roll for Help" will take place until around 8 pm. Line 5 will run from the Landgericht stop via Moltkestraße and Grünberger Straße to Berliner Platz. Instead of the Behördenzentrum stop, it will stop at Berliner Platz. Line 12 will be diverted from the Steinstraße stop via Nordanlage and Marktplatz to Berliner Platz. The Landgericht stop will be cancelled. Buses on routes 5 and 12 in the direction of Wieseck or Sandfeldschule will use the normal route.
Further information on special bus services during the city festival and the diversions during the city run on Sunday is also available by telephone on 0641 708-1400 or directly from the mobility centre in the infoZentrum in Schulstraße 7 near the market square.
