The fifth season is just around the corner and with it the carnival procession of the Giessener Fassennachts-Vereinigung e. V. (GFV). For the city buses of Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG), this means that there will be disruptions on all routes from around 13:30 to 18:00. It will not be possible to travel to the market square during this period. Due to the route of the carnival procession, bus connections to the city centre will also be interrupted. Stadtwerke is anticipating an increase in passenger numbers even before the carnival celebrations and is therefore deploying articulated trains on lines 1, 2 and 5.
Despite the roads in the city centre being closed from 14:00 to 16:00, Stadtwerke is aiming to maintain the following connections:
Line 1 from Lützellinden/ Allendorf/ Kleinlinden to the railway station; from Rödgen to Waldstadion.
Line 3 from Schwarzacker to Schiffenberger Weg, from the cemetery via Ostanlage to Berliner Platz
Line 5 from Wieseck via Nordanlage to Stadtwerke
Line 801 and 802 from Wettenberg via Weststadt to the Mühlstraße stop
Line 24 from Wetzlar via Heuchelheim to the Mühlstraße stop
Lines 2, 6 and 7 will unfortunately have to be cancelled between approx. 13:30 and 16:00.
Buses on lines 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 12 are expected to depart from the Behördenzentrum and Berliner Platz stops between 16:00 and 18:00. Lines 24, 801 and 802 will depart from the Mühlstraße and Schützenstraße stops during this time.
The Sunday timetable applies to the departure times on the regular route.
Additional buses ready for use
Three more city buses are waiting in the wings on the SWG premises. SWG will deploy these buses individually as required in order to be able to cope with the high volume of passengers if necessary.
Stadtwerke asks its passengers for their understanding for interruptions to journeys and possible delays due to the carnival procession.
