Alternative transport and additional buses are available

The fifth season is just around the corner and with it the carnival parade organised by the Giessen Carnival Association. As a result, there will be considerable disruptions to bus services next Sunday, 6 March, probably from 13:30 to 17:30. During this period, city buses will not be able to stop at the Marktplatz bus stop; bus connections to the city centre will also be temporarily interrupted. "We are already expecting increased passenger volumes before the carnival hustle and bustle and are therefore deploying spacious articulated buses on lines 1, 2 and 5," explained Anne Müller-Kreutz, Head of Local Transport Services at SWG. Stadtwerke Gießen also has three additional buses in reserve that can be deployed immediately if required.

Information on timetable changes is available at the infoCentre in Schulstraße or by calling 0641 708-1400.

All timetable changes in detail
From 13:30 to around 16:00, some of the city bus routes will be interrupted and diverted. The stops along the diversion route will be served:

Line 1 from Lützellinden, Allendorf, Kleinlinden to the railway station, from Rödgen to Waldstadion.

Line 3 from Schwarzacker to Schiffenberger Weg, from Friedhof via Ostanlage to Berliner Platz.

Line 5 from Wieseck via Nordanlage, Westanlage, Lahnstraße and Frankfurter Straße to the railway station.

Lines 801 and 802 from Wettenberg via Weststadt, Nordanlage and Ostanlage to the Berliner Platz stop.

Line 12 from Sandfeldschule via Ostanlage to Berliner Platz.

Line 24 from Wetzlar via Lahnau, Heuchelheim via Westanlage, Lahnstraße and Frankfurter Straße to the railway station.

Line 11 from Wetzlar via Dutenhofen, Allendorf, Lützellinden, Kleinlinden to the railway station.

Lines 2, 6 and 7 will unfortunately have to be cancelled completely between around 13:30 and 16:00.

After the end of the carnival procession, the buses will probably not be able to travel via the Marktplatz stop until around 17:30 due to clearing work. It will be possible to board the Wetzlarer Verkehrsbetriebe lines 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 12, 801, 802 and 11 at the Berliner Platz stop. Line 5 stops at the Behördenzentrum stop. Line 24 of the ESE transport company departs from the Mühlstraße or Schützenstraße stops during this time. Line 11 of Wetzlarer Verkehrsbetriebe is expected to return to the Berliner Platz and Johanneskirche stops from 16:00.

Stadtwerke assumes that all buses will be able to return to the Marktplatz stop from 17:30. The Sunday timetable applies to the departure times on the regular route. The usual fare regulations and conditions of carriage apply to all journeys.

Tip: With the group day ticket to the parade
If you want to travel on the city bus on Sunday, you should use the inexpensive group day ticket. It is valid for a maximum of five people and costs 6.00 euros for the city journey, a single journey for adults costs 1.60 euros.
