Stadtwerke Gießen has organised a special bus service between Gießen and Wettenberg for the Golden Oldies weekend in Krofdorf-Gleiberg.
Live music from the 50s, 60s and 70s and well-preserved vintage cars attract tens of thousands of visitors to Wettenberg every year on the last weekend in July. In the Krofdorf-Gleiberg district, they experience a journey back in time to the last century at the three-day "Golden Oldies" festival. Those travelling by car, however, will have to face traffic jams and the search for a parking space before embarking on this journey through time. The organisers therefore recommend using public transport. Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) has organised a special transport service for the weekend of 26 to 28 July. "Festival visitors from Giessen and the region can easily get to Krofdorf-Gleiberg and back home again by bus," assures Mathias Carl, Managing Director of SWG's local transport subsidiary MIT.BUS GmbH. The same applies to all classic car fans travelling by train via the intermediate station at Gießen railway station.
Stops and journey times
The buses to Wettenberg travel to the stops in Giessen every 30 minutes. Due to the work on the station forecourt, the festival buses will start at the replacement stop Bahnhof/Mathematikum: on Friday, 26 July from 18:00 to 23:30, on Saturday, 27 July from 10:00 to 00:00 and on Sunday, 28 July from 09:00 to 20:00. The departure times for the last buses in the direction of Giessen from the Wiesenstraße stop in Krofdorf-Gleiberg are as follows: Friday at 23:56, Saturday at 00:26 and Sunday at 20:26.
In Giessen, the MIT.BUS buses stop at the following stops: Bahnhof/Mathematikum in Liebigstraße, Liebigstraße, Johanneskirche, Stadttheater, Marktplatz, Oswaldsgarten, Schützenstraße, Gleiberger Weg, Leimenkauter Weg and Hochhäuser. Passengers can also get on and off the bus at the stops Launsbach-Gewerbepark Ost, Gewerbepark West, Seemühle, Klingelgarten, Wiesenstraße, Wißmarer Straße and Kronzenborner Weg in Krofdorf-Gleiberg. Festival visitors who use the special transport service only have to pay once for a return journey on one day - a day ticket costs two euros.
However, this offer does not apply to the regular lines to Krofdorf-Gleiberg, 800 and 802, which serve all stops in Giessen at the usual times. In Krofdorf-Gleiberg, however, they take an alternative route via Wiesenstraße and Kattenbachstraße and only stop at Wiesenstraße, Kronzenborner Weg and Wißmarer Straße.
All information on stops and departure times can be found in the special timetable for the Golden Oldies Festival - available from the Stadtwerke Gießen customer centre and on the Internet at www.stadtwerke-giessen.de in the Transport section.
