Open-air music, culture and plenty of culinary delights - from 19 to 21 August, the city festival attracts visitors to Giessen city centre. Stadtwerke Giessen will provide additional transport services on Friday and Saturday evening to ensure that visitors can get home again in comfort.

From 19 to 21 August, after a two-year break due to the coronavirus, there will once again be celebrations in Giessen city centre. The organisers are expecting up to 100,000 visitors to dance to open-air music and enjoy the numerous cultural offerings. Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) will once again be organising a special bus service to get party guests home safely, even late at night: From Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday, several lines will depart from the "Marktplatz" bus stop at 00:30 and 01:00 respectively. These include buses on line 1 to Lützellinden and Rödgen, line 2 to Eichendorffring, line 3 to Friedhof and Schwarzacker, line 5 to Wieseck and line 7 to Philosophenwald. Line 800 runs from the "Marktplatz" stop to Weststadt and the "Philosophikum". A scheduled taxi runs to Petersweiher and in the direction of Sandfeld and "Evangelisches Krankenhaus".

As those responsible are expecting a large number of passengers, SWG will be using spacious articulated buses on routes 1, 2 and 5.

Free Venus and Saturn night buses

In addition to the special trips mentioned above, the free Venus and Saturn night buses also run on Friday and Saturday nights between 00:30 and 04:30. Both lines start at the "Berliner Platz" stop. The Saturn line serves the south and east of the city and stops in Kleinlinden. The Venus line runs to the railway station and to the north and west of Giessen as far as Wieseck. If you want to go to Rödgen, Allendorf and Lützellinden, you can change to a connecting taxi. In the direction of Rödgen, it departs from the "Waldstadion" stop - to Allendorf and Lützellinden from the "Waldweide" stop.

"We are doing everything we can to get visitors into the city and back home safely and comfortably during the festival weekend," promises Anne Müller-Kreutz, Head of Local Transport Services at SWG.

Diversion on Sunday

Due to the Giessen city run "Run 'n' Roll for Help" on 21 August, lines 5 and 15 in the direction of the railway station and line 12 to Berliner Platz will have to take a diversion between around 11:00 and 20:00. The buses will run from the "Landgericht" stop via Moltkestraße and Grünberger Straße. Instead of stopping at the "Behördenzentrum", they will stop at "Berliner Platz".

Journeys on route 6 in the direction of Schiffenberg will start at the "Berliner Platz" stop on the Stadthaus side. In the direction of Wieseck Greizer Straße and Burgenring or Sandfeldschule, the lines will take the usual route.
