Stadtwerke Gießen is committed to children's and youth sport with its "Play your game" sponsorship concept. As part of the campaign, the company is now supporting the Goetheschule in Buseck.

Basketball has been one of the most popular sports in Central Hesse for decades. The first and second division teams from the Giessen region certainly play a large part in this. Many girls and boys emulate their idols in the highest German league and want to shoot the decisive basket in the last second in front of a large audience. But much more important for children than success is the fun of the game. This is exactly what primary school teacher Marco Blaschke wants to convey to his pupils - in his basketball club, which he offers once a week. 18 children aged six to eight learn how to handle the ball at the Goethe School in Buseck. "I came up with the idea because we were looking for an exercise programme for after-school care," explains the teacher. The club is exactly what Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) wants to promote with its youth development concept "Play your game". When the primary school teacher heard about the programme, he immediately applied - and was successful.

Sports programme to be expanded
SWG is supporting the Goetheschule in Buseck with two mobile basketball hoops and a match ball. On Friday 2 February, Stephanie Orlik, responsible for Marketing Services & Sponsoring at SWG, dropped off the new sports equipment. She emphasised: "What the school and Marco Blaschke in particular are doing here is one hundred percent in line with the spirit of 'Spiel' Dein Spiel'. It's not primarily about discovering the professionals of the next generation. Rather, we want to encourage children and young people to enjoy exercise. The focus is on having fun with sport."
While the girls and boys were delighted with the new hoops and immediately threw their first balls, Marco Blaschke and Caroline Gassen, Chairwoman of the
Goetheschule Buseck support association, thanked SWG for its commitment. The teacher also revealed: "With the help of the two new hoops, we can now even expand the programme. In future, we would also like to offer the basketball club for grades three and four."

Clubs, schools and private initiatives can apply for funding as part of the "Spiel' Dein Spiel" programme - simply online using the form at www.swg-spieldeinspiel.de. SWG will review all applications received and will inform you shortly whether and in what form they will support the project.
