Burst water pipe in Wiesecker Weg
Wiesecker Weg has to be fully closed to traffic due to a burst water pipe.
At 6.15 a.m. on Thursday morning, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) had to shut off the drinking water supply in a section of Wiesecker Weg. The reason for this was the breakage of a water pipe. In order to seal the leak and repair the damage caused, there was no choice but to close Wiesecker Weg between Dürerstrasse and Ludwig-Richter-Strasse to traffic. It is not yet clear how long the repair work and therefore the closure will last. By replacing the burst pipe section, SWG was able to rectify the cause and resume the supply of drinking water to the residents in the affected properties. However, as is often the case in similar incidents, the leaking water also washed out the carriageway in Wiesecker Weg. Consequently, it is now necessary to find out over what length cavities have formed in the subsoil. To this end, a number of investigations - such as test drillings - are pending. On Monday, experts from the city and SWG will clarify how much of the carriageway needs to be renewed and to what extent.
Traffic will be diverted
The closure of Wiesecker Weg will of course have an impact on traffic and therefore on bus routes 5 and 15 as well as the Venus night bus route, which will have to take the following diversions: Line 5 and the Venus night bus will travel in the direction of Wieseck "Greizer Straße" via Wiesecker Weg, Dürerstraße, Marburger Straße and Ludwig-Richter-Straße. The "Röderring" stop will be cancelled. In the opposite direction, line 5 will remain on Lichtenauer Weg after the "Weidigstraße" stop, then turn onto Marburger Straße and return to Wiesecker Weg via Dürerstraße. In this direction of travel, the stops "Am Eichelbaum", "Grabenstraße" and "Röderring" cannot be served. Alternatively, the buses will stop at the "Lichtenauer Weg" stop in Marburger Straße.
Line 15 will run in both directions via Wiesecker Weg, Dürerstraße and Marburger Straße. The "Röderring" and "Holbeinring" stops will have to be cancelled. In the "Burgenring" direction, the "Dürerstraße" stop will be used instead. Diversions for private transport are signposted on site.
Further information on current bus diversions is available on 0641 708-1400, on the Internet at www.stadtwerke-giessen.de/verkehrshinweise or at the RMV mobility centre in Giessen in the SWG customer centre on Marktplatz.
