On Sunday morning, 17 footballers from the Giessen area took part in the training kick-off for the Stadtwerke Giessen AG (SWG) district team in bright sunshine and cloudless skies. The introductory training session for the players, who will face the Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund in a fortnight' time, was a relaxed get-to-know-you training session. The footballers were welcomed to their first session on the Steinbach pitch by the team's coaches, Achim Mohr and Jörg Zachariasz.
A challenge for players and coaches
The players have already been in the preparation phase at their club for weeks and therefore already have the necessary fitness requirements. But it's not just the players who are facing a special opponent in this friendly match. It is also a real challenge for the coaches to put together a top team from the 24-man squad in the shortest possible time. The first training session began with warm-ups and stretching. The footballers then had a go at a small four-a-side training match. The footballers repeatedly completed two different exercises. In order to familiarise themselves not only with their team-mates, but also their running routes, the footballers played eight against eight in a final game.
