Once again, unknown callers are pretending to be employees of Stadtwerke Gießen in an attempt to obtain sensitive customer data. The energy supplier asks people to report such calls.
Dodgy callers are once again trying to force customers of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) to disclose sensitive data. They are pretending to be employees of the energy supplier. So far, SWG is aware of one case in which the unknown persons asked for the meter number. However, the obvious crooks not only knew the customer's telephone number and name, but also an old postcode. Nothing more is yet known about the callers' behaviour. "We ask all our customers not to disclose any data over the phone," explains Ulli Boos, Head of Marketing at SWG. SWG also knows the numbers from which the dubious calls come: These are: +49 491 5735994483 and +49 30 588805738
Do not respond
SWG itself would never contact its customers by telephone if, as in the case described, the call was about a tariff change. "As soon as someone asks for data, you can be sure that SWG is not on the other end of the line," adds Ulli Boos. This is because Stadtwerke Gießen has all the important data. And if the energy experts have something important to tell their customers, they usually do so in writing. That's why Ulli Boos also recommends: "If someone asks you to hand over data in the name of SWG, just hang up."
SWG ask for support
In order to obtain more information about the callers' scam and possibly even put a stop to the suspected fraudsters, SWG is asking people to report such or similar calls immediately. "In this way, we can warn our customers and initiate criminal prosecution of the callers," says Ulli Boos. The SWG service number 0800 2302100 is available for such reports.
