Stadtwerke sponsored fifties association visit to the Mathematikum

Last week, the Fifties Ladies' Association 1944/94 - who also call themselves the "Vivis" - enjoyed an interesting evening at the Gießen Mathematikum. The association was welcomed by Peter Gömmer, chairman of the fifties. He thanked the Giessen public utility company for making this evening possible for the fifties.

During a guided tour, the Fifties Association was able to see for themselves that maths is not just something that belongs in school lessons, but is also something you can touch.

At the beginning of the tour, the "Vivis" were given a demonstration of some of the exhibits by the inventor of the Mathematikum, Professor Albrecht Beutelspacher. The visitors then had plenty of time to explore the secrets of the experiments on their own.

The visit, including the guided tour, was won by the fifties ladies of the 1944 vintage at the first Giessen Fifties Walking and Hiking Day in October. As the largest group of participants with 43 runners, the "Vivis" secured the main prize. The prize, a visit to the Mathematikum including a guided tour, was sponsored by Stadtwerke. For this reason, Ina Weller, Head of Marketing at SWG, took the opportunity to welcome the group of fifty to the Mathematikum on behalf of the Giessen-based energy and water supplier. "As a company with regional roots, we feel committed to the region in which we live," said the Head of Marketing. "That's why it's a particular pleasure for us to support associations and institutions that have a long tradition, such as the Fifties Association," said Weller.

Heide Scharmann, Deputy Chairwoman of the "Vivis", also confirmed that the excursion into the world of maths was an all-round successful evening. "We were very pleased with the eventful evening at the Mathematikum. It was the first time some of our 43 participants had been to the Mathematikum, but I'm sure it won't be the last," said Scharmann.
