Once again this year, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) welcomed twelve trainees and one technical college student (FOS) who are starting their careers with the regional energy supplier. The following apprenticeships are represented again this year: Plant mechanic in plant construction (AM), electronics technician for industrial engineering (EB), qualified pool attendant (FAB), industrial clerk (IKF/IKM), IT specialist for system integration (FISI) and automotive mechatronics technician (KFZ).
During their induction week, the newcomers got to know the company together in a fast-paced programme and made their first contacts with other trainees. "We want to make it easy for the new recruits to get to know the company and reduce their initial reservations. The induction week has established itself for this purpose," explains Ruth Biehl-Franze, Head of Training at SWG.
Depending on the profession, the new trainees will spend between three and three and a half years acquiring the necessary skills for their future career. In addition to specialised knowledge, SWG attaches particular importance to skills that count regardless of the training profession: Enjoyment of work, commitment, interest, curiosity, a sense of responsibility and the ability to work in a team. Other commercial and industrial companies in the region also benefit from the trainers' expertise. They also send their young professionals to the SWG training centre to complete certain training modules. "Not every company can offer the full range of relevant content. We are happy to take over in such cases," explains training supervisor Georg Erb. An exchange that has proven its worth and benefits everyone involved. After all, SWG is always learning something new from the trainees who come from other companies and bring their experience with them.
