Probably until next Wednesday

Even though Giessen's drinking water has been bacteriologically safe again for several days, Stadtwerke Giessen AG (SWG) continues to chlorinate the water as a precautionary measure.

"We want to make sure that the chlorine also reaches the points in our pipe network that do not normally have a high flow rate. That's why we are thoroughly flushing the pipe network at these points and continuing the chlorination process for a few more days. We expect to be able to stop adding chlorine next Wednesday," says Matthias Acker, deputy company spokesman for SWG.

Chlorination takes place here

The entire Giessen water network will be chlorinated with the exception of the districts of Lützellinden, Allendorf and Rödgen, which are supplied with drinking water from the Mittelhessische Wasserwerke special-purpose association and not from the Queckborn waterworks. In Kleinlinden, the SWG only chlorinates the lower-lying area below Katzenbach and Bergwaldstraße. The Grünberg districts of Kernstadt, Göbelnrod, Queckborn and Harbach as well as the Fernwald district of Annerod are also affected by chlorination.

SWG will inform its customers next Wednesday whether chlorination can be stopped as planned.
