Experts not only need sound training in their profession to optimise their work results. They also need to keep up to date with the latest technical and legal developments. Since 1 November 2011, the new Drinking Water Ordinance has been one of the most important current topics for gas and water installers. For this reason, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) informed all installation companies in the supply area on 26 April about the background to the amended ordinance and the technical requirements.
"It is important to us to support partner companies with events like this. After all, hygiene-conscious planning, execution and maintenance play a decisive role, especially when it comes to drinking water. We can only deliver flawless drinking water quality if everything is right during installation," explains Wolfgang Döring, Head of SWG Meter Management.
Experts explain the background
In their presentations, guest speakers Dr Gisela Friedrich from the Giessen health authority and graduate engineer Rainer Pütz explained, among other things, what is important for domestic installations and which regulations must be observed in accordance with the Drinking Water Ordinance. The 2011 amendment brought with it a significant innovation. Landlords must now have all storage tank drinking water heaters or central flow-through drinking water heaters with a capacity of more than 400 litres tested for legionella once a year - at defined sampling points. If necessary, homeowners must commission an installation company to install appropriate sampling points downstream of the drinking water heater, at the circulation inlet to the drinking water heater and at the most distant tap in each riser.
