In times of tight municipal budgets, those responsible in cities and municipalities are looking for ways to effectively reduce costs. The topic of lighting is also increasingly coming into focus. But does a switchover pay off? And if so, how quickly? Which light sources are suitable for which purpose? Dipl.-Ing. Johannes Herold answered these and many other questions. Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) engaged the IHK expert as the keynote speaker at this year's Municipal Environmental Meeting on 21 September. "With these events, we want to help our municipal partners with their very specific practical problems," explains Michael Rösner, Head of Sales for Private and Commercial Customers at SWG.
Johannes Herold provided this practical help in his presentation. He explained all the important interrelationships that play a role in lighting. After a brief outline of the physical and biological principles, the energy manager went into the factors of colour rendering, light colour, colour temperature and colour rendering index. He then presented the different types of lamps and described their economic efficiency.
The second part of the presentation dealt with the dimensioning of lighting and thus, of course, also with the legal requirements for offices. Of course, the expert also pointed out the potential savings that can be made by retrofitting and illustrated this with a comparison of light-emitting diodes and fluorescent lamps. The presentation was rounded off with a practical example of a lighting calculation and a digression on the potential savings that can be made through daylight-dependent control.
The municipal environmental meeting is a permanent fixture at SWG. Once a year, the company invites representatives from neighbouring municipalities to a lively exchange of information.
