Since the beginning of April, a new emergency vehicle has been part of the fleet of the Wetterfeld volunteer fire brigade, replacing a vehicle that had become obsolete. "Even though it was still doing a good job, the vehicle's 25 years of service were clearly evident. The vehicle also no longer met the technical guidelines, which is why something had to be done urgently," explains fire chief Christian Meerbott.
Although the town of Laubach covered the purchase costs, the volunteer fire brigade had to build a new hall to house the vehicle. The active members took on the shell construction themselves, minor work is still outstanding and until a few days ago the hall door was also missing. Due to the comparatively tight budget, the fire brigade association was unable to finance it entirely from its own funds. Donations were necessary, as Katrin Happel from the Customer Services department at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) was aware. She herself has been actively involved in the volunteer fire brigade since her youth and suggested helping the emergency services from Wetterfeld with one of the 75 good deeds. "The work of the volunteer rescuers is very valuable and anything but self-evident. After all, they sacrifice countless hours of their free time. A service for the people in the communities that Stadtwerke supports," explains the SWG employee.
On 22 May, she presented a cheque for 500 euros to Christian Meerbott, Fire Chief of the Wetterfeld Volunteer Fire Brigade, and Dietmar Cuda, 1st Chairman of the Wetterfeld Volunteer Fire Brigade Association. "Unfortunately, we couldn't afford the purchase from our own funds. This makes this donation, for which we would like to thank Stadtwerke Gießen, all the more important," said Dietmar Cuda, 1st Chairman of the Wetterfeld Volunteer Fire Brigade Association.
