Municipal utilities offer new subsidy programme for heating conversions

Less energy consumption, lower CO2 emissions and a substantial cash injection to boot. Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) is now offering its customers a new subsidy programme for converting their heating systems. The aim of this subsidy programme is to save energy in order to reduce heating costs and protect the climate and resources in the long term.

Who can take advantage of the subsidy programme?

House and flat owners who now decide in favour of a natural gas condensing boiler or district heating or a natural gas condensing boiler or district heating in combination with a solar thermal system to replace their old heat generator are eligible for funding. The following conditions must be met in order to benefit from the subsidy:

- the previous heat generator is at least 15 years old,

- the existing heat generator is operated with an energy source other than natural gas or district heating,

- the customer concludes a two-year gas supply contract or a heat supply contract with SWG,

- the customer has access to the natural gas network (consumption point) in the SWG basic gas supply area that can be economically developed by SWG or the customer has access to the heating network (consumption point) in the SWG heating network area that can be economically developed by SWG.

Focus on a winning strategy

What is the right energy source? What is the right heating technology? Stadtwerke has summarised the right winning strategy for domestic heat generation:

Natural gas

Natural gas as a fuel offers several advantages for customers with its low space requirement, convenient procurement and use as well as security of supply. And with its low-emission combustion, it also benefits the environment.

Natural gas condensing technology

A modern natural gas condensing boiler also utilises the heat contained in the flue gas, achieving efficiency levels of up to 107 %. Up to 40 % less energy consumption and up to 4 tonnes of CO2 savings per year and household are impressive in terms of heating cost reduction and climate protection.

District heating

The use of district heating significantly reduces the burden on the environment. This is because the simultaneous generation of heat and electricity means that the fuel used is utilised particularly effectively. In addition, significantly less CO2 is emitted. With district heating, customers receive heat directly into their homes. There is no need for a separate heating system.

Solar thermal energy

In addition, interested parties can cover up to 60 % of their hot water production with free energy from the sun and even support a heating system.
