In mid-December last year, Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) began erecting the last four bus shelters in Gießen. New bus shelters have been erected at the Professorenweg, Nordanlage (towards the city centre) and Schubertstraße (out of town) stops, while a covered billboard was replaced with a new bus shelter at the Max-Reger-Straße stop (out of town).

Stadtwerke completed the entire project for the new bus shelters on schedule.

With a total of 44 bus shelters installed over the past three years, SWG has thus actively contributed to the beautification of Giessen's cityscape.

With the new bus shelters, SWG wants to offer its passengers adequate protection from wind and weather. The all-round glazed bus shelters are each equipped with three seats and a timetable display case.

Integrated ceiling lighting is intended to illuminate the stops, especially in the evening hours, thus increasing comfort for waiting passengers.

Stadtwerke laid the foundation stone for this project at the beginning of 2001, when SWG took over responsibility for the construction and maintenance of the bus shelters in Giessen from the city. In November 2001, SWG began building the first new bus shelters. The already developed and now typical Giessen may green design served as a model. However, long before the actual work began, the investment measure, 80 per cent of which was subsidised by the state of Hesse, was put out to tender across Europe. This was necessary due to the order volume totalling 800 thousand euros.

In addition, 15 further bus shelters were installed, financed by an advertising showcase from the Hessian Poster Institute (HPI).

Finally, Stadtwerke would like to thank the residents affected by the bus stops for their understanding. After all, a smooth process was often only possible with their consent.
