The Sternschnuppe kindergarten in Grünberg-Reinhardshain is committed to promoting children's language skills and physical awareness. Forest and gymnastics days are therefore regularly on the programme for the little ones, as are language development exercises using special play equipment. In addition, the kindergarten is currently taking part in a language development project at Justus Liebig University in Giessen: with the help of various tasks, the scientists are researching which conditions improve reading in dialogue.
As the financial resources of municipal facilities are limited, the Sternschnuppe kindergarten is often dependent on donations to purchase special play equipment. "We make sure that our play equipment is of very good quality so that the children can enjoy it for many years to come," explains Jutta Peppler, head of the centre. This is why Björn Ploch from the Marketing & Sales department at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG), himself the father of a two-year-old daughter, suggested donating two high-quality wooden games to the kindergarten as part of the 75 good deeds. "Nursery school teachers fulfil an important task, which is why their work should be supported in the best possible way," says the SWG employee, explaining his commitment to this good deed. "After all, their work directly benefits society."
Recently, the 30 one- to six-year-old children at Sternschnuppe have been able to practise their language in a playful way with the new wooden memory game, "This and That". Training attention, developing language and practising listening are at the centre of the second game "Hörspitz". On 22 October, Björn Ploch presented the head of the kindergarten, Jutta Peppler, with a symbolic donation cheque for the two wooden games.
