On 24 and 25 September, Stadtwerke Gießen will be dismantling the outdated cable suspension lights in the Riegelpfad and Liebigstraße areas and the connecting crossroads.
On behalf of the city, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) has made the municipality's street lighting a little more efficient again. For several weeks now, modern LED lights have been providing the necessary light in Riegelpfad, Liebigstraße and the parts of Ludwigstraße, Ebelstraße and Wilsonstraße that connect them. But unlike their predecessors, which were equipped with conventional fluorescent tubes, the lights are no longer suspended from steel cables stretched between houses. "As part of the modernisation, we installed steel masts," explains Stefan Holl, the specialist planner responsible for the project at SWG. The LED lights, which are both economical and powerful, are attached to them.
Now it's time to dismantle the suspended luminaires and their suspension cables, which are no longer needed. SWG has scheduled 24 and 25 September for this. On these two days, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., there will inevitably be restrictions for residents and other road users. This is because the work will be carried out on the carriageways and pavements and sometimes even on residents' properties. "We have no option but to close the roads where we are working to traffic - at times even for pedestrians and cyclists," explains Lothar Theis, the foreman in charge at SWG. There is also a temporary ban on stopping in the relevant streets. Last but not least, the SWG experts are also installing and connecting the three mast lights that were previously missing.
"We are already asking all those affected for their understanding for the inconvenience," adds Stefan Holl, "but the closures and stopping bans are all in the interests of safety." In fact, the risk of injuring someone or damaging vehicles would be too high. Despite all due care, it cannot be completely ruled out that components or even the steel cables could fall.
