Stadtwerke Gießen and the women's team of the Kegel-Sport-Vereinigung Wieseck e.V. are extending their successful partnership for another three years.

When it comes to bowling, most people probably think of a traditional leisure activity and sociable evenings. But the fact that there are four different types of bowling shows just how versatile the sport actually is: Classic, Bohle, Bowling and Schere. The women's team of the Kegel-Sport-Vereinigung Wieseck e.V. has dedicated itself to scissor bowling - at the highest level. In 2009, the team was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga and has played here almost continuously ever since.

Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) has been supporting the bowlers since their first season in the highest German league. "To be successful over such a long period of time, sports clubs need partners they can rely on. We are glad that we have had SWG at our side for all these years and can continue to rely on their help in the future," explains Ann-Kristin Alexander, 1st Chairwoman of KSV Wieseck. In fact, the two partners have extended their long-standing, successful co-operation for another three years.

Very different from traditional bowling

The challenge of scissor bowling lies primarily in the nature of the lane. This is because it rises towards the pins. From the launch to the target, the ball has to overcome a height difference of ten centimetres. In addition, the 23.50 metre long track widens from 35 centimetres to 1.25 metres 9.50 metres after the launch. Last but not least, the surface is not flat, but curved inwards by a few millimetres. This curve naturally influences the path that the ball ultimately takes. There is another exciting detail: "We play on four different lanes at every match and none of them are the same. So we always have to adapt to new conditions. That's what makes it so exciting," says sports manager Luisa Stark, describing the fascination of her discipline.

Scissor bowling is all about technique and precision, adaptability and mental strength - especially when competing at national league level. In order to be able to call on all of this on every match day, consistent training is required at their own facility "Am Ried". "This is where we work on our skills. But we never miss out on having fun," adds Luisa Stark.
