Fire brigade of the future competition
The "Fire brigade of the future" competition was launched in 2011 and is now entering its next round. The aim is to honour particularly successful projects in the volunteer fire brigades in Central Hesse. There is no fixed motto.
The fire brigades and Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) are a strong team for the region. And they have been for many years. After all, both are indispensable for the people of Central Hessen with their services. One component of this partnership is the "Fire brigade of the future" competition. The competition is now entering the next round.
How participation works
Any fire brigade department that would like to take part should send the completed application form with a project description by 30 April 2025, stating the keyword "Application Fire Brigade of the Future 2025", by email to sorlik@stadtwerke-giessen.de or by post to

The submitted applications will now be assessed by fire service experts. The acceptance or rejection of participation in the competition will then be received by the applicants by 15 May 2025. Participants have until 31 October 2025 to implement the project and submit the project description. Please send us the detailed project description with the keyword "Fire service of the future". A jury consisting of representatives from the press, fire services and municipal utilities will now evaluate the submitted project documents and select the winners. The winners will be announced in December 2025 at the latest.

All departments of volunteer fire brigades are eligible to participate, i.e.
- operational departments
- Children's and youth departments
- Departments of honour and old age
- Music and marching bands
- as well as the supporting sponsoring organisations.
The prize money for the winning fire brigade departments is as follows:
- 1st prize: 1,500 euros
- 2nd prize: 1,000 euros
- 3rd prize: 500 euros
